VIDEO: Collection Of Yasiel Puig’s Home Runs From First Half Of Season

In the weeks leading up to voting for the All-Star Game coming to an end, Yasiel Puig was all but assured a spot in the midsummer classic. While it would be Puig’s first All-Star Game in his young career, he also had his sights set on participating in the Home Run Derby.

Puig’s path to the Derby wasn’t quite as clearcut. Rather than being able to rely on fans or his peers to get him to Minnesota for Wednesday’s game, his Home Run Derby fate lied squarely in the hands of Colorado Rockies shortstop and National League team captain Troy Tulowitzki.

Tulowitzki eventually extended an invite to Puig, who at one point was mired in a homer-less drought that spanned 33 games. Puig ended his skid against Tulowitzki’s Rockies in emphatic fashion on July 4.

Puig enters the Derby with 12 home runs, which is the lowest total among all 10 participants.
