VIDEO: Joc Pederson Hits 29th Home Run Of Season

Some of the biggest headlines from the Los Angeles Dodgers’ farm system have come from their Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes.

From the Isotopes, the majority of those headlines have come from one player: Joc Pederson. The Dodgers’ top outfield prospect has been the Isotopes most productive player this season. In 106 games though August 13, the 22-year-old was hitting .302 with 28 home runs, 64 RBIs and 26 stolen bases.

In the second inning of Thursday’s game, Pederson came to the plate with two runners on and drove the ball deep over the right field wall for a three-run home run. The blast put the Isotopes ahead 5-3 at the time.

For Pederson, he is on pace to become the Pacific Coast League’s first 30/30 (home runs and stolen bases) player since 1934. The home run puts him one away from 30 and a stolen base in the game left him needing three more to reach the feat. Many expected the Dodgers to call up their young prospect, but there is a logjam in the outfield and manager Don Mattingly said that Pederson would not be promoted unless there was an everyday job available.

  1. Mattingly says no Joc in LA until he has a full-time spot in the OF? What about when AAA ends in 2 weeks?? Send him home or give him a month-long cup of coffee? Bring him up. He can spotstart in left. I know that would interfer with DonDon’s plans to bat Crawford 5th in the order 6 days a week, but we’ll clinch the division in about 4 weeks and Crawford will need the rest for October.

I think Donald’s afraid Joc might steal Ctrawford’s job with an offensvie sxplosion greater than CC’s run of singles. Which is why Joc needs to be up in August, to be eligible for postseason. Like
Lou Gehrig filling in for Wally Pip, Joc might not relinquish the slot for 20 years.
