VIDEO: SB Nation’s Matt Ufford Talks Yasiel Puig Bat Flip

Since signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Yasiel Puig has drawn heavy criticism and plenty of interest. It began with questions as to whether or not Puig warranted the large contract the Dodgers signed him to, then transitioned to criticism over Puig’s exuberance.

Puig finished his rookie season hitting .319 with 19 home runs and 42 RBIs. His call up to the big leagues coincided with Hanley Ramirez’s return from injury and together, the duo helped spark the Dodgers turnaround.

This season, Puig got off to somewhat of a slow start in terms of batting average, but was showing more discipline at the plate, which resulted in a high number of walks. Puig’s average has steadily risen on the Dodgers’ nine-game road trip, due in large part to a 4-for-4 effort against the Minnesota Twins on May 1.

Part of Puig’s flare includes a trademark bat flip, which has drawn the ire of opponents. SB Nation’s Matt Ufford argues Puig should continue with his style of play and offers suggestions to the young Cuban to incorporate.
