Video: Vin Scully Calls Sandy Koufax Perfect Game Today In 1965

On this date in Dodgers history, Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax recorded his first perfect game and eighth at the time against the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium in 1965.

The Dodgers beat the Cubs 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel as Koufax tossed nine perfect innings, striking out 14 and recorded his 22nd win of the season. Koufax would go on and win the NL Cy Young award in 1965 and World Series MVP as he finished the year 26-8 with a 2.04 ERA, while striking out an incredible 382 hitters in 335.2 innings.

During his entire Dodgers career, Koufax went 165-87 with a 2.76 ERA and 2,396 strikeouts and took home three Cy Young awards while becoming the youngest player ever elected to the MLB Hall of Fame at age 36.

Calling the game was Dodgers longtime Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully as he’s been around for all of the Dodgers history since the team left Brooklyn for Los Angeles.

Here’s the video of Vin describing the scene at Dodger Stadium of the first perfect game of Sandy’s career:
