WATCH: Cody Bellinger Slugs 33rd Homer of the Season; Closes in on Record

Cody Bellinger continues to have a career year as a rookie. He just hit his 33rd home run of the season at the age of 22, and he hit it off of former Dodger Zack Greinke.

The rookie home run record may be a long shot for the Dodgers’ first baseman. Mark Maguire set the record several years back with 49 in a season. Cody would have to go off in the next couple weeks to catch that pace. However, Bellinger is 0nly 2 away from catching Mike Piazza for the Dodgers’ franchise record for the most home runs by a rookie. It’s also fun to mention that Bellinger didn’t play the first 25 games of the year! Who knows where he’d be now if he had played all year long.

The Dodgers now hit win number 80 of the year. Meanwhile, every other team, except for the Astros, is striving towards their 70th win. The Dodgers may not be on a hot streak, I think they’re just that good. Cody has been a vital part of that. After last night, the Dodgers’ are 71-22 when Bellinger plays.
