Twitter does it again, reporting that the Washington Nationals have signed free agent pitcher Dan Haren, which effectively puts them out of contention for Zack Greinke, due to lack of need.
The report was tweeted by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, who tells of a 1-year/$13 million deal for Haren pending a physical.
With a rotation of Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, Dan Haren, and Ross Detwiler, the Nationals have no further need to pursue Greinke, who is still projected to receive a 6-year/$150 million contract in free agency.
Fellow Fox Sports writer Jon Morosi mirrors the thought that Washington will no longer pursue Greinke on Twitter.
The remaining teams in the Greinke derby are believed to be the Dodgers and Texas Rangers, although mystery teams can loom at any given moment.
Still the belief is that Greinke is the Dodgers’ to lose.
