Yasmani Grandal Leads Dodgers Offense In 14-Run Outburst

In their series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Los Angeles Dodgers looked to scrape by with a series tie as Carlos Frias toed the rubber against Mike Fiers.

Joc Pederson, who went yard twice in Wednesday’s game, struck out to begin the game. Yasmani Grandal singled up the middle, but was thrown out at second off of a grounder by Howie Kendrick. With a runner on first and two outs, Fiers was able to strike out Adrian Gonzalez as well to end the top of the first.

Frias, in his second start of the season, began with two quick outs but ran into trouble after issuing a walk to Ryan Braun. The right fielder proceeded to steal second, and Adam Lind knocked a grounder up the middle to send Braun home. Frias was able to strike out Aramis Ramirez to end inning and to contain the Brewers to just one run.

Heading into the second, the Dodgers were down 1-0, but not for long, as Alex Guerrero hit a solo shot on the second pitch he saw to tie the game up at one a piece. Fiers was able to retire the following three batters, including a strikeout to Juan Uribe for his third of the game. Frias retired the side in order, including strikeouts to Khris Davis and Juan Centeno to end the second.

Frias struck out to begin the third as Pederson and Grandal both drew walks. With just one out, Howie Kendrick singled on a line drive to load the bases for Gonzalez, who hit a soft line drive to center field to send two runners home. With with Dodgers leading 3-1 and runners on first and second, Guerrero flied out, but Ethier was able to draw another walk to load the bases for the second time in the inning. Uribe ended the run as he struck out for his second of the game.

In the bottom of the third, Fiers flied out and Jean Segura struck out for two quick outs. Scooter Gennett hit a line drive single, but Braun grounded out to end the inning. In the fourth inning, the Brewers starter struck out all three batters he faced to raise his strikeout count to eight.

Things did not go as smoothly for Frias, who gave up a leadoff home run to Adam Lind. He almost gave up back-to-back homers as Ramirez hit a line drive double off the wall. Gerardo Parra quickly followed up with a single to send Ramirez home, which tied the game at three. Davis hit a line drive single for the Brewers fourth hit in a row as zero outs remained. The inning began to turn around once Frias collected the first out by striking out Centeno. Fiers bunted into a force out as Parra advanced to third and Fiers was barely safe at first. With runners on the corners and two outs, the Dodgers starter struck out Segura to end the shaky inning.

To begin the fifth, Fiers issued a four-pitch walk to Grandal, but Kendrick lined out and then Gonzalez quickly hit into a double play to end the top of the inning. Frias looked to get back on his feet and recover after a rough fourth inning and was able to do so as he retired the side in order.
