Adrian Gonzalez Delivers Twice In Dodgers Extra-Innings Victory

In the bottom of the fifth, Bolsinger got the first two outs before Shields singled. Will Venable also singled and Yangervis Solarte walked to load the bases for the Padres. Justin Upton followed with a two-run single to put his team up 2-0. J.P. Howell was brought in and retired Kemp to end the inning.

The Dodgers were retired in order in the top of the sixth. Howell also retired the side in order in the bottom half.

Ethier finally got the Dodgers on the board with a one-out home run over the porch in right field to cut the deficit in half. The offense went down quietly after that. Howell got the first out in the bottom half and then allowed consecutive singles. Chris Hatcher took over on the mound and retired Upton and Kemp to end the inning.

Joaquin Benoit replaced Shields on the mound for the eighth. Kiké Hernandez, who came in with Hatcher in double switch, flew out to start the inning. Pederson grounded out and then Puig drew a two-out walk. Gonzalez then delivered a game-tying, RBI double to right field. Kendrick struck out to end the inning.

For the Dodgers, Adam Liberatore came in and retired the Padres in order with two strikeouts.

The Padres brought in closer Craig Kimbrel in the top of the ninth. Ethier was able to get on base via walk, but the other hitters were retired in the inning. Juan Nicasio took over on the mound for the Dodgers in the bottom half. He allowed a leadoff single, sacrifice bunt and a walk to put two runners on with one out. Nicasio got a fly out to bring Upton up. Upton hit a ball that would appear to have won the game, but Pederson saved the game with an incredible catch and crash into the wall.

In the 10th, the Dodgers got a Puig single and nothing else to go to the bottom half. Josh Ravin came in with Chris Heisey for the Padres turn in the 10th for Nicasio and Puig. Kemp hit a leadoff single and was seemingly erased on a double play, but the Padres reviewed the play at second and Kemp was ruled safe. Ravin got the next two hitters to strike out to send the game to the 11th.

Kendrick singled to lead off the inning, but Grandal grounded into a double play to stop any threat. Ethier then followed with a groundout to end the inning. Ravin retired the side in order and the game went to the 12th.

The Dodgers loaded the bases off Dale Thayer with a Callaspo double and consecutive walks by Hernandez and Pederson. Alex Guerrero pinch-hit for Ravin and flew out for the second out. Gonzalez followed with a single to center to drive in two runs and make it 4-2. Kendrick struck out to end the inning.

Kenley Jansen came in to try and close things out. He recorded two outs via strikeout on six pitches. Kemp then hit a two-out single off Hernandez’s glove. Jansen got a pop out to end the game and preserve the Dodgers victory.
