The NL All-Star voting list update was released today. The Dodgers Matt Kemp passed Bryce Harper and has moved into the #2 spot for national league outfielders. He trails only Nick Markakis of the Atlanta Braves.

Matt Kemp Deserves The Top Outfielder Spot
With respect to the talented top 3 outfielders in the votes, Matt Kemp has better numbers than Nick Markakis and Bryce Harper in almost every statistical category. This is impressive despite his recent slow-down.
Matt Kemp: 13 HR, 318 BA, 144 WRC+
Nick Markakis: 8 HR, 328 BA, 138 WRC+
Bryce Harper: 19 HR, 219 BA, 119 WRC+
While Markakis has a better batting average, this is marginal and only recent. Depending on who you ask, batting average is less important these days when it is weighted amongst other statistics. Bryce Harper has more HR but while batting average isn’t the most important number–219 is almost Mendoza line bad.
How amazing would that be to have Nick Markakis and Matt Kemp as your starting outfield come July? The two veterans are 34 and 33 respectively and would be quite the story.
Keep Getting Out That Vote!
We still have until July 5th to get Matt Kemp into the #1 vote-getter. We don’t want to stop, and we don’t want somebody else to get it, not when he’s this close! Beast Mode has earned that from us, and Dodger Nation we can vote him to the top! Go vote for all our boys in blue right here.
