Breaking News: Dodgers & Red Sox Complete Blockbuster Trade

We’ve been covering the news over the past 24 hours on Twitter and Facebook as the trade developed and here we have it:

The Dodgers have acquired Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett, and Nick Punto from the Red Sox in exchange for James Loney, Rubby de la Rosa (as PTBNL), Jerry Sands, Allen Webster, and Ivan De Jesus.

The Dodgers take on a huge amount of money and fairly high amount of risk, but the reward is massive.

The Contract Details:

  • Gonzalez is due $21M per year through 2016 and a small raise to $21.5MM for 2017-18.
  • Crawford is due $20M in 2013, $20.25M in 2014, $20.5M in 2015, $20.75M in 2016 and $21M in 2017.
  • Beckett is due $15.75MM per year through 2014.
  • Punto is due $1.5M per year through 2013.

A lot of talent goes over to Boston in this deal, but the main goal was salary relief. Rarely do both teams win in a trade of this magnitude, but I believe this is a fair trade for both teams.

  1. One last move. Leave Hanley Ramirez at shortstop he is happy there. Move Dee Gordon to 2nd base which with his speed he should cover more ground with less errors as the throw to first base is shorter. Lastly get a thumper at third base like Bautista from the Blue Jays. After that no on will be able to face this line up
