Breaking: Top Prospect Alex Verdugo Called Up For Game Two of Doubleheader

Alex Verdugo is on his way back to the big leagues.

This is really exciting – possibly more exciting than the Dodgers tallying double digits in extra base hits against the Giants this afternoon. Alex Verdugo has been recalled from Oklahoma City for game two of the doubleheader in San Francisco. If you don’t have any plans on Saturday night, you can tune in and likely see one of the Dodgers’ top prospects by surprise.

The news broke in the sixth inning of game one.

This move could signal that the Dodgers will not have Matt Kemp or Yasiel Puig available for the rest of the series. Kemp suffered a lower leg injury on Friday evening. Puig ran into the right field wall making a catch successfully in the afternoon part of the twin bill.

Verdugo is currently the 32nd ranked prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com’s Prospect Pipeline. This is not the first time that Verdugo has been called up to the big leagues. In 15 games at the end of the 2017 big league season, Verdugo hit .174 with one home run and four base hits.

The Dodgers were thin in the outfield in game one. Joc Pederson, Chris Taylor, and Cody Bellinger finished the game as the starting three outfielders. You may recall that the organization said they had no plans to play Bellinger in the outfield in 2017.

Who knew when the day began that the Dodgers were going to score a bundle of runs? As a bonus we get to see Alex Verdugo in big league threads. Isn’t baseball wild, unpredictable, and great? Like Walker Buehler – this may not be a forever move – but we might get a few series with Verdugo on the roster. The young outfielder is one of the Dodgers’ top prospects in the organization. Any time a guy like that gets the call, it’s worth tuning in to see what he does. A hallmark moment in San Francisco is just what the doctor ordered for this team.

  1. Everyone seems to be waiting for the spark….Hoping another Rookie will lead to playoffs….Last year everything seemed to go right…and now because of Luxury tax issues…our bull pen is under preforming….aaaahhhhhhhhh the horror….

    1. I am hopeful that Verdugo can continue the Dodger trend of a rookie surprising and taking the league by storm. He’s off to a good start.
