After splitting the first two of their four-game series, the Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers are back in action under the sweltering sun at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers, 5-5 in their last 10 games, received strong pitching Friday from their staff and timely hitting by Adrian Gonzalez and Justin Turner to bounce back from Thursday’s thumping. The Dodgers now send Brett Anderson to the mound in hopes of slowing down the speedy Reds.

In his career, the left-hander has allowed just 38 stolen bases and currently leads the Majors with six pickoffs this season. Although his numbers may not completely reflect it, Anderson has largely been consistent for the Dodgers this season.

He enters the start 6-7 with a 3.43 ERA, 3.75 FIP and 1.33 WHIP. Anderson was frustrated after his last outing and if there’s one area for improvement it’s in pitching deeper into games. The left-hander hasn’t tossed more than six innings since May 20.

The Reds counter with David Holmberg, who is pitching just the 12th game of his career (10th start). He has allowed two runs and issued three walks in each of his three starts this season. His rookie status is still technically in tact because he had not appeared in enough games in his previous stints in the Majors, though he debuted in 2013 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kiké Hernandez has started six of the last seven games and is again playing second base. The combination of Gonzalez and Turner are slotted back-to-back in the lineup, as they were Friday, but with Gonzalez this time batting third and Turner in the cleanup spot.
