With Brandon Phillips standing on first base following an infield single that Hernandez was unable to get an out on after coming up with a diving stop, Votto worked a full count before slicing an RBI double into left field. Frazier drew a four-pitch walk to put two on, but Anderson preserved the Dodgers’ 5-3 lead by getting Marlon Byrd to hit back to the box.

Turner continued to be a one-man wrecking crew as he kept a solo home run just fair down the right field line to lead off the bottom of the third. Puig and Crawford drew back-to-back walks, which resulted in Holmberg’s night coming to an end. Pedro Villareal took over for the Reds and promptly gave up a base hit to Ellis that loaded the bases with no outs.

Pederson grounded into an RBI force out and the Dodgers led 7-3 through three innings. Anderson walked Ivan De Jesus Jr. to open the fourth inning, but he was then erased on a force out at second base. However, that required Dodgers manager Don Mattingly to challenge the original safe call, with replay showing Hernandez lost control of the ball on the transfer.

Billy Hamilton kept the inning alive by reaching on an infield single that got by Anderson’s lunging attempt and hit off second base, robbing Hernandez and Rollins of any opportunity to make a play. It didn’t amount to anything for the Reds as Anderson then retired Phillips to end the inning.

Gonzalez padded the Dodgers’ lead with a line-drive solo home run in the bottom of the fourth that carried just enough to clear the left field fence. Turner committed a throwing error on a routine grounder that allowed Frazier to reach second base with two outs in what was an otherwise quiet fifth inning for the Reds.

Anderson worked around a one-out single in the sixth by getting Bruce to ground into a 3-6-3 inning-ending double play. Yimi Garcia replaced Anderson in the seventh and set the Reds down in order as the Dodgers’ lead held at 8-3. Puig hit a one-out single and stole second base in the bottom of the seventh, then Crawford lined a pitch off Ryan Mattheus for an infield single that left runners on the corners.

However, the Dodgers failed to add to their lead as Ellis grounded into an inning-ending double play. Garcia allowed a one-out base hit to Frazier, but the inning quickly ended as Byrd lined into a double play. Chris Hatcher entered in the ninth for his first appearance since being reinstated from the 60-day disabled list and tossed a clean inning to wrap up the Dodgers’ 8-3 win.

  1. Dodgers need to bring up Bolsinger and send Latos out for some remedial work at OkC – Bolsinger was effective most of the time, Latos not at all.
