Can He Win It?
While Nitkowski brings up some valid concerns, it appears that a closer look at the numbers only strengthens Kershaw’s MVP case. What he’s doing is historically great: making a run at his fourth consecutive ERA title, winning his third Cy Young at age 26, and looking to become the first pitcher with back-to-back seasons of a sub-2.00 ERA since Greg Maddux did so in 1994-95.
So, while Kershaw may end the season with around 200 innings pitched, that one number can’t possibly outweigh all of the others.
