Dodgers 2014 Player Reviews: Yasiel Puig

Yasiel Puig

2014 Highlight

Yasiel Puig made a host of impressive diving catches last season and regularly showed off the cannon he has for an arm, but the highlight of his season was the career-high 16-game hitting streak he put together.

Puig began the streak April 30 against the Minnesota Twins and had a slash of .409/.494/.758 with six home runs, 21 RBIs and 11 walks; seven of the 16 games were multi-hit games.

2015 Outlook

It was rumored early on Puig was being shopped, but that no longer appears to be the case. The Dodgers are said to be interested in trading an outfielder, with Andre Ethier perhaps being most likely to be shipped out of Los Angeles.

Puig will certainly have a spot in the Dodgers outfield next season but what position remains to be seen. If Matt Kemp were to be traded, Puig potentially would move back to right field with Joc Pederson handed the reins in center. However, if Ethier or Carl Crawford or dealt, the Dodgers could move forward with the same alignment they utilized at the end of last season.

Considering Puig showed the ability to remain disciplined at the plate, the trend should continue. Where improvement will be needed is in his patience when things don’t break his way.
