Dodgers Add to Front Office, Hire Jim Hickey

The Dodgers have reportedly hired former Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago Cubs pitching coach Jim Hickey to fill the role of special assistant to the player development sector for the front office, according to Marc Topkin of Tampa Bay Times.

Hickey most recently worked as the pitching coach for the Chicago Cubs under the direction of GM Theo Epstein, but stepped down in November 2018 for ‘personal reasons’.

In the Cubs’ lone season under Hickey, Chicago ranked second in the National League in ERA (3.65). Their bullpen in 2018 also posted the best ERA in baseball (3.35).

Hickey has been a Major League Baseball pitching coach for 15 seasons, including six with the Tampa Bay Rays who the Dodgers start up a two-game series with this evening.

He should fill some sort of niche role with the Dodgers front office, quite possibly in a pitching development advisor capacity.

Hickey should be an excellent addition to the development staff due to his large body of work at the major league level and his proven track record of success.

Also, Chase Utley did absolutely nothing wrong.

    1. Thank you very much, sir! Tell your daughter I said good luck and to make sure she gets herself a warm winter coat!

  2. I am sure our newest addition to the FO will do a commendable job. However, I would rather have seen the money spent on Craig Kimbrell, who might win us a few games in relief. Go Blue!!

    1. BLUE LOU! Earlier I posted the fact that Freidman, back in his old stomping grounds in TB would come away with at least one transaction, a player or otherwise. But correct, I would have rather seen them spend $$ on the BP, and while I realize there are young arms within, they do not have PS or even regular MLB experience yet.

      1. I agree with you 100%, AZUL!!!! For the immediate present, and with Baez banged up, Kelly doing little, Floro shaky, that money might have been used to augment our BP. Go Blue!!!!
