Dodgers’ Adrian Gonzalez Back Issues Could Hinder His Chances of Making Playoff Roster

Adrian Gonzalez has been on the disabled list for most of the year, and it’s looking like he is still not 100% healthy. On Wednesday, Dave Roberts told reporters that Gonzalez was still dealing with back issues. He also noted that it’s possible these back issues result in him being kept off the playoff roster.

Gonzalez is an absolute pro and consistent when healthy, sporting a career .289 batting average and 310 home runs. However, this season has brought out a side of Gonzalez that fans are not used to.

Due to injuries, Gonzalez has only played in 64 games this season. His slash line this year is .248/.291/.349 and he has hit just 2 home runs. The power decrease was a huge sign that something was wrong, considering Gonzalez has hit as many as 40 in a season and hit 18 in 2016.

Since coming off of the disabled list, Gonzalez is hitting just .226, with 1 home run in 53 at-bats. Unfortunately, injury has plagued his entire year and it does not look like it is letting up any time soon. It is terrible news to hear Dave Roberts say that it’s possible A-Gon doesn’t make the playoff roster, but it’s looking like it might be what is best for the team.

  1. Love El Titan, but his career is over. The loss of bat speed has been obvious. The team was better when he wasn’t on the roster. Check the record. Time to move forward and make our push to bring a championship to LA!!

  2. Leave the lineup the way that got the Dodgers to where they are today… 1st place…next stop world series

  3. I want the everyday lineup playing that went 43-7 and that didn’t include Gonzalez. So start resting up and see you next year. And pls put Puig back in the 8th spot.

  4. Not going to worry about the losing streak. But it seemes we struggle against the d-backs. Dont need that in the playoffs. True blueb66

  5. Oh, no! Have been praying for Gonzo and his return and healing. Hope his back is well and strong. Can’t wait to see him this Sunday at Christian Family Day! Love and prayers continue for him! As God wills! –Lauri and Doug, huge fans!

  6. He has been “Mr. Clutch” for the Dodgers. However being that the Dodgers have so much talent this year, I have to agree with Dave Roberts decision. I can always hope that something miracle will happen and he can remain on the roster and used as a PH like Kirk Gibson.
