Dodgers Analyst Calls the Padres the Third Best Team in Baseball

A little bit of tension in the NL West?

The Dodgers and Padres are probably going to be the most followed storyline of the 2021 season. After San Diego went above and beyond acquiring starting pitching in the offseason, Los Angeles countered with a few huge pickups in free agency.

Despite the Padres’ massive efforts to improve, most around baseball still view LA as favorites to win the NL West. Padres fans certainly believe that they are the best team in baseball, so they think they should win the west. But for one Dodgers analyst, the Padres are not even the second-best team in baseball.

Jerry Hairston Jr talked recently about the Dodgers versus Padres situation this year. For JHair, the Padres are the number 3 in baseball behind the Bronx Bombers.

You know what, the Show-Pads are the third-best team in Major League Baseball. I got the Yankees number 2, but the Padres definitely the second-best team in the National League.

A former Padres player himself, fans down in San Diego can’t be too happy with Hairston after that comment. Dodgers fans, on the other hand, might be getting a little bit of a laugh out of it all. But there is no doubting the improvements that the Pads have made in pursuit of keeping up with Los Angeles.

San Diego added in former Cy Young winner Blake Snell and a guy who finished second in voting during the 2020 season in Yu Darvish. They followed up those moves by making yet another trade for a starting pitcher, netting them Joe Musgrove. Is it enough to beat the Dodgers in the West? Probably not. But it’s shaping up to be a lot of fun to watch.
