Dodgers Analyst Jerry Hairston Jr. Talks Mookie Betts in Los Angeles

It’s always nice when one of our own – the Los Angeles Dodgers family – appears on MLB Network. First off, it’s usually something with prominence that gets run time on MLB’s flagship television station.

Indeed, big things are happening with baseball in Los Angeles at the current time.

Recently, Jerry Hairston Jr. appeared with Matt Vasgersian and Harold Reynolds to talk about the Dodgers’ addition of Mookie Betts. The full clip of the segment is below. Also, we will parse some highlights of it below and give you our take.

First, Hairston starts out by praising Joc Pederson and his production in a big way. Hairston is happy to see Pederson remain a member of a crowded Dodgers’ outfield. Then, he moves into the heavy-lifting subject of Betts becoming a Dodger.

“LA is about superstars. You have a Mookie Betts with Cody Bellinger, arguably the two best players in all of baseball. First of all the defense gets better with Bellinger in center, Mookie in right. Both have incredible throwing arms and incredible range. I love Mookie Betts at the top of the Dodgers lineup because he brings speed, power, and athleticism.”

Obviously, picturing Betts and Bellinger together seems like a dream come true as Hairston Jr. touches upon. Already, a former general manager has spoken about the impact two players like this can have on a team. Hairston builds on that point, but also loves David Price coming to Los Angeles.

“There’s nothing Betts can’t do on a baseball field, very similar to Mike Trout and Cody Bellinger. But what everyone is not touching on is David Price. Price has a lot to prove. Remember last year he pitched with a cyst on his throwing hand. Now he’s 100 percent healthy, and the Dodgers are not going to ask him to throw 200 innings. I think Price is going to welcome this change of scenery, and I can’t wait to see him pitch in September and October.”

The city is excited, and for good reason. With Spring Training games on the horizon, the Dodgers will have the chance to prove if they finally have found the right ingredients to win a title very soon.
