Dodgers And Clayton Kershaw Look To Take Game 2 Against Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to lean on Clayton Kershaw’s services on the mound during Game 2 at Coors Field.

The Dodgers (102-58) came out flat against an ignited Colorado Rockies team. The Rockies batting order was able to plow through Hyun-jin Ryu and the rest of the bullpen’s pitches. Coors Field is known as a “hitters park,” and Colorado’s batting order definitely scorched the Dodgers with powerful extra-base hits Friday night, including home runs from Nolan Arenado, Mark Reynolds, and Trevor Story.

Expect to see a sell-out crowd in Denver for Game 2 because the Rockies are one win away from securing the second Wild Card spot from the Milwaukee Brewers. Colorado is aiming to end their season on a high note, and give their fans a memorable night at Coors Field. It’ll definitely showcase a taste of October, but squeezing one last game in for Kershaw amid playoff atmosphere is definitely “what the Doc ordered.”

The last time Kershaw saw the Rockies was when they torched Dodger Stadium by outscoring the Dodgers 9-1, just like they did on Friday. Nolan Arenado hit a three run home run off of the first pitch thrown to him, but Charlie Blackmon and DJ LeMahieu have also hit Kershaw well recently. Both have hit .286 in over 40 at-bats.

Unfortunately for Los Angeles, no Dodger hitter has had more than three at-bats against the Rockies’ starting pitcher, German Marquez.

In spite of all that, the Dodgers ultimate competitor should come alive for Game 2. Kershaw is back to where he was before spending time on the DL. He’s still currently tied for a league leading 18 wins in 2017, and gets one last opportunity to prove why he should win another Cy Young Award.

There’s no reason why he shouldn’t be proclaimed the best pitcher in the league if he can get win No. 19, spoil Colorado’s after-party, and fuel the team towards another tough victory on the road.
