Dodgers: Andrew Heaney Excellent in Win Over the Nationals

The Dodgers had to feel pretty disappointed with the way the last couple of games went. Facing off against a bad Nationals team, they dropped them thanks to disappointing outings from the bullpen. They went into Wednesday afternoon really needing some offense and good pitching.

And Andrew Heaney gave them the second part of that equation. Making just his 4th start of the season, Heaney spun 4 really good innings against the Nationals. He allowed just 1 hit and walked a trio of batters on 71 pitches. The Dodgers southpaw left the game with a big lead as well, a great start coming off of the injured list.

Offensive Explosion

The Dodgers offense talied just 4 runs in the first 2 games of the series. They quickly jumped out front and put together a 6-run inning to start the game. Mookie Betts banged a double off of the wall to lead things off, and he eventually came in on a Justin Turner single. It’s worth noting that all of those runs in the first inning came with 2 outs.

Bullpen Endures

The bullpen was much better for the Dodgers than in the first 2 games of the series. Phil Bickford and Alex Vesia each tossed a shutout inning behind Heaney. Jake Reed allowed a run across 1.1 innings of work in his season debut with LA. And David Price finished it up for them with 1.2 innings.

Up Next

The Dodgers will head to the dreaded Coors Field this weekend to take on the Rockies in a 4-game series. Tyler Anderson gets the ball for Los Angeles on Thursday evening, and he gets to throw against Jose Urena.
