Dodgers: Bench Coach Bob Geren to Interview with Mets for Managerial Vacancy
The MLB lockout has sure dampened the mood of baseball fans and the hot stove. That doesn’t mean that moves aren’t being considered, though. It seems there is another possible Dodger family exit on the horizon.
Mets insider Andy Martino reported that Bob Geren is expected to be interviewed by New York this week for the club’s open managerial position.
Add another Mets managerial candidate. Bob Geren will interview this week, per source. Former Mets bench coach who has been in that role with Dodgers through their run of success.

Indispensable Bob
Bob Geren has been around baseball longer than most of our readers have been alive. Geren is a walking baseball encyclopedia, and his experience on the bench is more than just a presence for Dave Roberts. Since his playing career was over, Geren has spent nearly two decades as a coach or a manager in major league baseball.
He started as a bullpen coach for the A’s, then a bench coach for the A’s, and then from 2007-2011 he was the A’s manager. After his stint with the A’s, he went and managed the New York Mets from 2012-2015. It is in New York where his reputation for being knowledgeable with statistics and analytics grew.

When the Dodgers hired a young Dave Roberts to be the skipper, the front office knew that Roberts could use a bench coach with experience and savvy. Geren fit that mold better than anyone, and it just so happened that Geren wanted to be back in southern California to be closer with his family, anyway. Since 2016, Geren has been the supportive rock for Roberts that has lead the Dodgers to the playoffs every year since, three World Series berths, and one World Series title.
All Mets Are Off
With the Mets paying for Max Scherzer and building up their roster to compete, having Geren back would be a big deal. Geren would strengthen and stabilize a team with new faces and a new identity. Geren is a forward-thinker, which the Mets appear to be interested in. The Dodgers and Dodger fans everywhere would surely be sad to lose Geren, but nobody could fault Geren for wanting to be at the helm again.

If this comes about, it CLEARLY shows DR, wanted, “The Roberts Show” and nothing else.
With this lockout, ‘The Roberts Show’ may never take place because there is a chance, at least an outside one that MLB is not played in 2022, as the sides are quite far apart as for that money battle goes.
Odds are Paul that Scherzer advised Mets brass that Geren was the “MAN” that kept that Dodgers team in order. Or kept Drrrrrr in check whenever he was pulling a Drrrrrr head scratcher!!
If it isn’t clear by now that Drrrrrr IS the problem, then the Dodgers will be doomed for some time..

Would take him over Drrrr in a heart beat. Letting Geren go will weaken a already weak area as we’ve been witnessing. And also will show us if the FO is going to re up Drrrr’s contract.

I’d rather see dumb ole Roberts go to New York.
funny – I suspect a lot of the hatred towards doc belongs rightfully to Geren. He’s in doc’s ear hopefully making the right calls thruout each game.

Wait one minute! Geren to interview this week? Thought we had a lockout preventing talks, trades, all baseball business.
I like Roberts, I think he’s a good guy, but I don’t like him as manager. But from all I’ve heard, and I’m no insider, he’s doing what the analytics guys tell him to do and if he didn’t he wouldn’t still be manager. At least not after he lost his first game going against the numbers.
He sold his soul to be manager and the price is he has to follow the numbers guys who don’t know baseball. If he’s replaced, the next guy will do the very same thing.
