Dodgers: Can You Beat Matt Beaty at Connect Four?

During the winter meetings — while the Dodgers had the perception of doing nothing — one Dodger player was having some fun in San Diego. LA utility man Matt Beaty visited the Hilton San Diego Bayfront just to take in the pomp and circumstance that is the winter meetings.

While there, he spent some time with MLB’s Cut 4 crew to get in a rousing game of… Connect Four?

“Bater’s Taters” is a notoriously competitive person. We saw as much when he and his wife Jesica joined our Blue Heaven podcast for a fun twist on the Newlywed Game earlier in 2019. This time the big leaguer went one on two against Jake and Jordan of the Cut 4 team.

In San Diego he worked to upend his competition while being distracted by questions about his rookie season. Questions included meatballs like which teammates helped most during his debut campaign, how a clubhouse kills time before a game, and inquiries about Matt’s aerodynamic hair choices.

Ultimately Beaty lost, but he left the door open for a rematch at Dodger Stadium in the future — this time with a partner of his own.

The 26 year-old is heading toward his second season with the Dodgers with a bit of uncertainty. While he’s likely to make the club at a left-handed bat off the bench and depth piece at first base, nothing is set in stone when it comes to a roster spot. However, with most of his time in the off-season being spent working out at Dodger Stadium, chances are looking positive for the 2015 draftee.
