Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw Talks About Wearing First Custom Spikes Ever on Wednesday

Usually, a former league MVP, 3 time Cy Young award winner, 9-time All-Star, and World Series champion doesn’t have too many firsts left 13 years into a big league career. But for Dodgers’ ace Clayton Kershaw, he found a first on Wednesday night.

He wore his first-ever customized cleats on the field while pitching. The designers? His kids.

The father of three shared the spikes on social media earlier in the week…

…and on Wednesday, he wore the Father’s Day special on the bump at Dodger Stadium

So how did Cali, Charlie, and Cooper feel about their masterpiece?

They were pretty proud of them. It was cool to get to do that. I’ve never been able to wear customized cleats before, so that was pretty fun tonight.

Unfortunately, Kershaw and the Dodgers lost 2-0 on Wednesday. But at least the future Hall of Famer got a little taste of something new at the ballpark.
