Dodgers Clinch Home Field Advantage During the Wild Card Round

The Dodgers are well on their way to the playoffs having already clinched a postseason berth this week. They became the first team to do so after taking down the Padres in a big series this week. Today, they took down Colorado in a big way and clinched something else in the process.

MLB playoffs this year have a different look, we already know that. One major difference is that 16 teams make it in to the postseason to start with. Teams will also play in a wild card round that features short three-game series. For that round, the Dodgers have locked down home-field advantage.

Home-field advantage for that round goes to the team with the better record based on matchups. Regardless of who they end up playing, the Dodgers cannot lose their home-field advantage. That’s good for a lot of reasons, but mostly because it gives them the last at-bats for those three games. Dave Roberts talked about the clinch after the game.

We love playing at home, albeit without fans. That’s a good thing. The guys earned that. We’ve got to finish off playing good baseball though.

The clinch also coincides with offensive production from a few key guys that were struggling. Cody Bellinger and Gavin Lux have booths struggled big time in 2020, but came up big for the Dodgers in a 15-6 win. Bellinger went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, driving in three in the process. Lux went 2-for-5 with a home run of his own.

But no matter what happens, there will be playoff baseball at Dodger Stadium in 2020. The wild card round is the only round that will not be played at a neutral location. So at least the Dodgers have that.
