Dodgers: Cody Bellinger Named the NL Player of the Week

The Dodgers had one heck of a week. After a little bit of a rough start with the Rockies in Colorado on Opening weekend, they’ve stormed back to completely dominate teams. That includes taking 4 out of 6 games total from the Braves and Padres.

Part of their success over that stretch has come thanks to Cody Bellinger. After a very bad 2021 season marked by injuries, Cody came into Spring Training this year without any success. But Belli has very much found his swing in the regular season.

In the past week alone, he has 3 multi-hit games to his name. The Dodgers centerfielder finished up the week by hitting two homeruns against the Padres on Sunday afternoon, driving in 4 runs along the way. But that huge week at the plate resulted in him being named the National League Player of the Week.

Bellinger put up a .304 batting average and drive in 7 runs for the Dodgers. All of that happened while he continues to play good defense in the outfield. In a year where many around Los Angeles were hoping that he could turn things around, Bellinger has managed to do just that at the plate.

If he can keep up this kind of success, the Dodgers having him near the bottom of the lineup will be huge for the season. Especially if he can help carry over things back to the main guys at the top of the order.

  1. Good for Cody! He is healthy again; sure like to see what the naysayers are thinking now. The ones who wanted to DFA him, trade him for a minor league utility player, etc. The guy had a sequence of FOUR major physical issues. Now he is healthy. He is on this way to a good year.
