Dodgers: Dave Roberts Apologizes to Robbie Ray After Extra Inning Dust-Up

Roberts commented and apologized in response to Friday night’s benches clearing escapade.

LOS ANGELES, CA - OCTOBER 27: Manager Dave Roberts #51 of the Los Angeles Dodgers looks on in the ninth inning during Game 4 of the 2018 World Series against the Boston Red Sox at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, October 27, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has reportedly apologized to Diamondbacks left-handed pitcher Robbie Ray, who was the starting pitcher on Friday night opposite Walker Buehler.

After a dust up that involved right-hander Archie Bradley of the Diamondbacks in addition to outfielder AJ Pollock and manager Dave Roberts, Roberts mistook Ray for a Diamondbacks staffer.

The reason for this is because Ray was wearing shorts, most likely because he changed out of his clothes when he was taken out of the game after his start. Ray was chirping at Roberts loudly during the benches-clearing event and Roberts stated audibly on the Sports Net LA broadcast:

“Who are you?”

The mishap was pretty comical all-in-all and it should be an interesting affair for the next two games considering Friday night was the first game of the series.

The entire escapade was even more dramatic considering the premise was regarding AJ Pollock on an obviously missed call by both the on-field umpires as well as New York’s replay review. The reason AJ Pollock’s involvement is interesting is because Pollock was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks just nine months ago, a teammate of Archie Bradley.

At the end of the day, good on Dave Roberts for apologizing to Robbie Ray.

  1. Screw Robby Ray! Disrespectful towards DR.Apologize to Buheler and all us fans for insisting on KJ to close out games. Hes not the same guy and he gagged again. Gotta go with the hot arm rest of the way. Could be Kelly, Baez at times has gotten us out of horrible jams, I think Julio and Kenta could be dynamite closers if put in those situations. #timeforchange

  2. I concur. Apologize to Robbie Ray…..for…….? Walker Buehler deserves the apology, because he pitched a gem and sadly got nothing. Not sure what was going on with Archie, but he needed to calm himself down. Regardless, we took the series and deservedly so.
