Dodgers: Dave Roberts Calls Derek Jeter His Favorite Executive for the Hiring of Kim Ng

Dave Roberts is apparently a very big fan of Derek Jeter. The Dodgers manager recently talked to Joel Sherman of the New York Post about the decision by Jeter and the Marlins to hire Kim Ng. After all, Kim spent quite a few years in Los Angeles as a President as well as Assistant General Manager.

The Marlins became the first professional men’s sports franchise to hire a woman in a general management role this week. When asked what he thought of the groundbreaking hire, Roberts was beaming.

Derek Jeter was already my favorite player. Now he is my favorite executive. What a great move breaking a glass ceiling and hiring Kim Ng as the Marlins’ General Manager.

Ng also became the first Asian-American general manager in Major League Baseball history. The former Dodgers executive has been a part of 3 World Series Championship teams and comes with over 30 years of experience in baseball.

Jeter and Roberts have a little bit of a past given that the 2 played against one another for a long time. Jeter was a member of the Yankees from 1995 to 2014 while Roberts spent 2004 in Boston, the most important moment of his career. Jeter and Roberts also ran into each other when Doc was a member of the Dodgers as well.

  1. Considering the Dodgers have no “GM” at this point, they probably should have made this move. But, then why muck with success and this way she has the opportunity to create something of her own with Miami.
