Dodgers: Dave Roberts Calls Max Muncy a Top 3 Player in MLB Right Now
Thursday night was another day for Max Muncy to torment the Giants. Coming off of a series against them last weekend that saw him rock the Dodgers NL West rival, Max came through in a big moment once again.
Muncy launched a solo shot off of Alex Wood in the bottom of the 6th to break a tie. That would prove to be the difference-maker in the game and would give the Dodgers their 31st win of the season. It also added to a ridiculous stretch of games that Max is having.
In the month of May, Muncy has gone 26-for-74(.351) with 8 homeruns and 16 runs driven in. He’s playing absolutely out of his mind and has also earned 15 walks over that stretch. After the win on Thursday, Dave Roberts made a bold statement about his first baseman.
He’s been great. Robert [Van Scoyoc] and the hitting guys have worked through some mechanics. But Max, I think you could argue right now is one of the top 2 or 3 baseball players in the game playing the best in the game right now.
Muncy is among the top 6 in all over MLB right now in OPS. He is also the league leader in OBP and is 5 homeruns back of the 16 mark held by 2 players. His 42 walks are also number 1 in all of baseball, and he’s been a huge part of the Dodgers’ success.

Right now, he is the number 1 position player in bWAR with a 2.9 mark. And the argument can be made that he is the Dodgers most valuable player through the first couple months of the year. Even when he went through a rough stretch with the bat, he was still getting on base at a ridiculous clip.
If Max Muncy stays hot, it’s going to be difficult to keep the Dodgers out of first place in the west.
Dodgers: New Era Pulls Their Local Market Line After Hilarious Backlash Online
Max to the max! His redemption story keeps getting better!
Yes, I 100% agree on just the eye test alone. The pitchers know he’s a hard man to get out w/ his discipline @ the plate. His keen eye on balls/strikes is exceptional, solid line drive hitter, and power to all fields puts pressure on the opponent’s pitchers and mngr. Also his defense is a life-saver for the Dodgers. Saving countless bad throws by the infielders, diving into nets, and playing solid defense @ 2nd giving DR a lot of options. Also not to mention being the leader of not backing down when the opponents start acting up. He’s THE MAN !!!!!
