Dodgers: Dave Roberts Discusses Strengths of the Milwaukee Brewers

The Dodgers and Brewers are set to square off in the Wildcard Series starting tonight in Los Angeles. Walker Buehler will go for Los Angeles while Brent Suter will get the start for Milwaukee.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts met with media on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the roster and upcoming series. When asked about how he felt the Brewers matched up with his squad, there was only one aspect of their roster Doc seemed to emphasize.

I think that we match up well against anyone, but as far as the Brewers specifically, this is a team that relies heavily on pitching. Starting pitching, the bullpen, they match up really well. They’ve had obviously position players that have performed over the years that haven’t had the season that they’re used to but still very dangerous. A lot of respect for Counsell and his staff.

Dave giving the entire pitching staff credit is probably a bit generous. While the starters haven’t been the key to their success, the relievers certainly have. Milwaukee ranks 2nd in the National League in WAR generated by relievers. Josh Hader and Devin Williams have been a huge part of that success, and are the two guys the Dodgers would have seen often.

It was announced today that Williams will actually miss the series with arm soreness.

Hader has had a down season by his standards, but he still throws some heat to go along with a wipeout slider. Williams has been ridiculous in his 22 appearances with the Brew Crew this season. His strikeout rate shot up to 17.7 per 9 innings and he allowed just 3 extra-base hits all year long. Now that the Dodgers don’t need to worry about Williams, things just got much easier.

  1. Why say anything at all. Be like LaRussa was and talk down to them or flat out ignore stupid topics and walk out
