Dodgers: Dave Roberts Estimates Dustin May’s Return Date

It’s wild to think that the Dodgers pitching staff could still be better. With as well as their starting staff has pitched this year, there are still a few names that could be added in. And luckily, none of them will come via trade or free agency.

Right now, the Dodgers have 4 guys on the injured list that profile as starters. That includes Clayton Kershaw, Andrew Heaney, Danny Duffy, and Dustin May. Kersh and Heaney are the guys they expect to have back soonest.

But we now have an idea of when Dustin May will make his return to the Dodgers. Dave Roberts spoke about it on Saturday, and it sounds like he could be back much sooner than anyone anticipated.

“Sometime in August is fair, potentially earlier. It’s going really well. I think he’s throwing ‘pens, throwing to hitters. Now it’s just that build-up as a starter. He’s worked his tail off to put himself in this position.”

Coming back from Tommy John surgery is no easy task. But the fact that D-May just passed the year mark and is throwing is huge. It is a little bit surprising to think the Dodgers want him built back up as a starter though.

The general consensus among experts was that May would return in the bullpen. Putting extra stress on an arm coming off of TJ seemed like too much of a risk. But if they plan on building him back up, that would be a huge weapon for late in the season.

  1. Man! Dustin May had some serious stuff! Getting him back in August will be our trade deadline acquisition! Never have forgotten his pitch to Manny Machado before the injury.
