Dodgers: Dave Roberts Names 2 Potential Members of His All-Star Game Coaching Staff

You blink and the 2021 All-Star Game is just 38 short days away. Baseball’s brightest stars will head out to Denver to play the exhibition match, and there will no doubt be a few Dodgers players representing Los Angeles.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts will also be the manager of the NL team since his squad won the NL pennant in 2020. This will be the second time in his career that he has managed the NL team, but the first time he will do so as a champion.

As expected, Doc is already picking out some managers from around the league to fill out his All-Star coaching staff. The Dodges skipper revealed a few names that he’s had conversations with as we move closer to the Summer break.

I expect Buddy Black — who is going to be the home manager in Denver — to be with me on my staff. I’ve reached out to George Lombard because he was obviously on the staff last year, but as I understand it he might decline because he’s in another league which we completely understand and respect. And there is another one that’s going to be an honorary manager.

Roberts and Bud Black obviously have a long history dating back to Roberts’ playing days. The two also coached together in San Diego while with the Padres. Doc served as Bud’s bench coach while he was manager down in SD. But now the Dodgers manager gets to be the boss for a day.

Lombard is now with the Tigers, so crossing over to the NL to coach for one day would be very surprising. But the Dodgers manager also plans on adding in an honorary manager, and we can’t wait to find out who that is.

Any thoughts on who that might be? Drop your guesses in the comments below!
