Dodgers: Dave Roberts Thinks 2021 Squad Could Be Historic

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts likes the team’s chances of repeating as MLB champions. It’s hard to disagree with him considering both the depth of the rotation and lineup. The LA Times Bill Plaschke asked the skipper about the potential of the 2021 Dodgers. The skipper had this to say:

“We have a chance to do something really special and win a championship. So that’s part of the fun. You don’t play the game on paper. You have to play 162 games this year and see where we end up. When you look at talent, potential, it could be as good as any team the Dodgers have ever fielded.”

Both paper and the PECOTA (Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm) Projection back up Roberts’ sentiment. Baseball Prospectus’s famous system charts the Dodgers win total at a whopping 104.

Plaschke asked Roberts if he was ever in awe of the amount of talent in the clubhouse. Roberts made it less about stars and more about chemistry.

“What this core has been through, some tough times, and obviously the elation of last year. The talent is there. The pedigree is there. You bring in Trevor Bauer, you bring back David Price. Then, the younger players who have gotten even more experience. You would think that makes them even better. There’s no telling how good this club can be.”

Undoubtedly, Bauer is a top shelf arm who will join Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler atop the rotation. Price’s role may change weekly, but he still has something in the tank. On top of his locker room leadership has been invaluable this spring.

The kids, Urias, May, Gonzalez, and Smith, are one year older, one year wiser, and hopefully that much better.

The Dodgers are a storied franchise and Roberts typically measures his words carefully.

Meaning, he truly thinks this group has the potential to be the best Dodgers team of all time.

  1. I project the Dodgers will win 112 games. Last year their winning percentage would have equated to 116 wins, in a 162 game season, tying them with the 2001 Seattle Mariners for the most ever. This 2021 team is better, but everyone is going to be gunning for them.

    1. hey 106 every year all teams always gun for thee dodgers always and you have to take away at least 15 games that dumberts will mess up but 97 wins will win division, playoffs are what really matters.
