Dodgers: Dennis Santana Will Be Called Up Prior to Today’s Game

With the ongoing injury issues and bullpen use, it looks as though one Dodgers prospect will be getting the call for tonight’s game. Dennis Santana, Los Angeles’ ninth-ranked prospect took to Twitter to announce his big news last night.

Santana has had a great year at the minor league level, but most did not anticipate his arrival so early in the season. With Kenta Maeda possibly facing a stint on the disabled list though, it makes sense. The current starting rotation has been pieced together by three guys that did not expect to make this many starts this early.

In ten starts at the AA and AAA level this season, Santana has combined for a 2.54 earned run average. He has also struck out 65 batters in just 49.2 innings of work, compared to 16 walks allowed. Santana held minor league hitters to a .196 batting average thus far in 2018.

Analysis

It seems likely that Santana will be coming out of the bullpen, and most likely tonight. Especially considering the number of innings works by the bullpen in Tuesday night’s game. Santana has about 35 appearances out of the bullpen in the minor leagues and 57 starts.
