Dodgers: Edwin Rios Shares His Biggest Baseball Motivator

Last weekend, Edwin Rios laced his first big league hit off the wall at Coors Field. Indeed, it was a long climb after being drafted in the 6th round of the 2015 MLB draft out of Florida International.

Now, Rios is talking about the influence that helped him become a big leaguer. The 25-year old Dodgers slugger joined AM570 LA Sports, and by listening in you will in turn know him better.

Without question, Rios says that it’s his father who he owes his baseball acumen to. Rios was asked what it meant to get that first hit in front of his father in Colorado.

“It is unbelievable what it meant. How tough he was on me and there’s times I was angry at him for being tough on me but I look back now and if he wasn’t as tough on me as he was, maybe I wouldn’t be in the position I am now.”

Furthermore, the reaction his dad had was a special one. Imagine if your son had climbed through the ranks of collegiate and the minor leagues to finally arrive and officially become part of the history books with a big league knock. It’s special stuff.

“After the game having my ball and handing it to him. He kinda lost it and then I kinda lost it and we hugged it out.”

There’s no telling where the journey ends for an Edwin Rios at this level. Therefore, the most important game will be his next one – and no amount of playing time is guaranteed. However, remember that a Max Muncy story is always right around the corner. Interestingly, they share similar influences for their baseball prowess and persistence.
