Dodgers: Former Reliever Gets Cut By the Astros

Dodgers fans remember Pedro Baez’s time in Los Angeles not so fondly. The right-handed reliever was often the source of frustration for fans out of that bullpen, even if it wasn’t always deserved. And although he did put up a run of solid seasons, it never felt like the fanbase trusted him in high-leverage moments.

So when Baez went out and signed a two-year deal with the Astros after the 2020 World Series win, Dodgers fans didn’t have a whole lot to say. It was just another reliever that was leaving Los Angeles, and one many didn’t mind seeing go.

But Baez’s time with the Astros went about as disastrous as you can imagine. A shoulder injury derailed his 2021 campaign with the team, pitching in just 4 games for Houston. This year didn’t go any better, throwing in 3 games and getting rocked for 6 total runs across 2.1 innings of work.

That led to the former Dodgers reliever getting the boot out of Houston. The Astros reportedly designated him for assignment today, and there is a good chance he is completely out the door there. The Astros paid out $12.5 million for a two-year deal to sign Baez away from Los Angeles.
