Dodgers: Giants Take LHP Darien Núñez From Los Angeles

The Dodgers already lost out on Darien Núñez once this week. It was announced a few days ago that the left-handed hurler would need to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ligament in his elbow. The next day, they designated him for assignment to make room on the roster for Reyes Moronta.

But now they are losing out on his again. After the DFA, the Dodgers are letting Núñez go after being claimed off waivers by the Giants. So even though he won’t be ready to pitch again for quite some time, he will be up there with Farhan when he’s good to go.

Núñez appeared in just 6 games for the Dodgers during the 2021 season. He allowed 7 runs across 7.2 innings of work and struck out 8.

The Dodgers have really been missing Andrew Heaney in their starting rotation. The left-handed hurler went down with a sore shoulder after his second start and they’ve had to go with Tyler Anderson in his place. But from what it sounds like, they have no plans of rushing him back, and he could be further away than initially thought.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers did get some positive news about a starter. Dustin May underwent Tommy John surgery last year after just 5 starts. But the hard throwing righty was out at the stadium in Arizona this week throwing, and it’s a big step in his recovery

  1. If I’m not mistaken, the Dodgers could have put Nunez on the 60 day IL just like they did with May and Fergie and Kahnke. Apparently theh didn’t consider him valuable enough to keep. Am I missing something?
