Dodgers Hope to Keep Mookie Betts Off of the Injured List

The Dodgers won a series against the Padres without Mookie Betts. That in of itself is a huge win. Los Angeles had to rely on some key role players to get it done, but they took two of three from the offensively inclined San Diego lineup.

Speaking about Mookie Betts, after the game Dave Roberts tried to set expectations for the week. Importantly, we already know that the Dodgers optioned two guys off of the roster on Thursday to meet the 28 player requirement.

But with Mookie’s finger swelling up enough to keep him from swinging a bat, it became that much more worrisome with the smaller roster. Nevertheless, the Dodgers are hopeful that Mookie will not have to see any time on the Injured List.

With the DH, it’s not as imperative. But I think that where we’re at, the extra guys in the bullpen, certainly we’re going to make an adjustment with the roster come Thursday or Friday. But I just don’t think we’re there yet with Mookie…Obviously you never want to lose one of your best players, but we’re trying to nurse him back to health. Got him in as a defensive replacement the last couple nights, but it’s just great to see other guys step up and contribute to wins.

Betts‘ finger swelled up in an at-bat that he hit a home run in on Sunday. He came out of the game late and has not made a plate appearance since then. He has come on as a defensive replacement late in games for the Dodgers in the last two games.

The club returns to Los Angeles to start a seven game homestand starting Friday.
