Dodgers: How AJ Pollock’s Wife Convinced Him to Play in 2020

The Dodgers were looking like they were going to be starting the season without AJ Pollock just a few short days ago. That was until he showed up in camp earlier this week, leaving fans to wonder what had happened.

Pollock revealed at a press conference that he had tested positive for COVID-19 prior to being allowed to report to camp. Speaking with Dodgers reporters, Pollock also updated fans on the health of his daughter. She was born premature and has spent a long time in the NICU with AJ unable to see her.

Despite all of that working against him and his family, AJ’s wife Kate couldn’t let him sit out the Dodgers season. Her reasoning was simple, yet powerful.

I thought it would be a lot harder. Kate is an athlete (lacrosse at Notre Dame). I think when I brought it up to her, she said, ‘Do you really want to look at the guys winning the World Series from the couch?’ I was like, ‘I want to do what’s best for you and what’s best for Maddie.

It takes unbelievable sacrifice and dedication to say something like that. AJ went even further to explain how hard Kate is working while AJ is now with the Dodgers.

It is strange. I’ve got Kate back in Arizona — she’s still grinding pretty hard right now. She’s at the hospital maybe 10 hours a day. That part mentally is hard, knowing she’s there. It’s a nice escape for me but tough thinking what my wife is going through.

First of all, we can’t thank Kate Pollock enough for allowing us to have AJ back for the year. We wish them nothing but the best of health and truly hope that they can all be reunited very soon. Let’s go win Maddie a World Series.
