Dodgers Injury Update: Justin Turner Likely to Avoid IL with Abdominal Injury

Lost in the drama of the Dodgers 9-6 victory over the Giants last night was veteran slugger Justin Turner exiting the game with an abdominal injury. Turner was pulled in the bottom of the eighth inning, with Jake Lamb assuming DH duties.

Prior to first pitch on Friday, JT elaborated on the severity of his injury and Dave Roberts outlined a timetable for Turner’s return to the lineup (quotes via OCR’s Bill Plunkett).

“Justin Turner described his injury as “a gremlin” in his rib cage. Has had oblique and intercostal injuries before. This isn’t that. Said he will be available to pinch hit but Dave Roberts said he plans to give Turner the next 2-3 days off. Not seen as IL situation.”

Losing to injury is never a positive, but it’s especially frustrating when the player is just starting to heat up at the plate. In his last 15 games, Turner is slashing .385/.468/.539 and has logged 12 RBI. His hot streak raised his average from .227 at the end of June to .253.

Turner ranks sixth in OBP, 14th in OPS, and 11th in wOBA in the majors for the month of July. Needless to say, he’s been a big factor in why LA has lost just two games this month.

From what it sounds like, fans can expect to see Turner back in the lineup when the Dodgers host the Nationals for a three-game series beginning on Monday.
