Dodgers: Joc Pederson and Dustin May Rehab Updates

Today was supposed to be Opening Day for Dodgers fans, so we understand the pain right now. But there is some good news to come out of March 26th, even if baseball is not being played. President of Baseball Operations gave a few updates to the media on the state of players.

Among the updates given by Friedman was the status of Joc Pederson and Dustin May. Both guys had not been able to get into big league game action for injuries sustained during camp. For Pederson, the veteran outfielder experienced pain in his side that was keeping him from swinging a bat. Dustin May also experienced what the team called a sore side as well.

As it turns out, this time off has proven to be good for the both of them. Pederson had already started to take hacks in minor league games when the COVID-19 virus shut down all of baseball. Dustin May had been making progress in throwing off of a mound, putting him closer to being on track for minor league Opening Day.

For Joc, it’s certainly been an interesting start to the year. The Dodgers attempted to trade him to Anaheim along with Ross Stripling, but that ultimately fell apart. Pederson is now one of many outfielders in a packed roster and will likely see time as a platoon hitter when baseball resumes.

May is in the unfortunate spot of being a part of a loaded pitching staff, leaving little room for him on the roster. The Dodgers have already locked in their five starting pitchers and it seems that May will begin the season at Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Both guys are now fully recovered and ready to go when the Dodgers get going. Major League Baseball has yet to release an official start date after pushing back the season two weeks.
