Dodgers: Julio Urías Scheduled For Rehab Stint In Rancho

It was announced Thursday afternoon that Julio Urías will make his rehab assignment for the Quakes Friday night. When the Quakes made the announcement, they did not specify whether he would start or come on in relief. Just last week, Urías made his first official rehab stint for the AZL Dodgers. He tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball, alongside four strikeouts.

The news first came from twitter.

Just short of a few weeks ago, Dave Roberts announced that Urías could be potential bullpen help for the Dodgers. Not only a hopeful call-up in September to help late in the season, but to stick around for the playoffs in October.

Following his injury 14 months ago, Urías underwent shoulder surgery shortly after. The timetable for a return was about a year. Here we are a year and two months later, and Julio is make fantastic progress in his journey back to Los Angles. At just 21 years of age, Urías has already shown he can play a key part in the Dodgers bullpen. Let’s take the 2016 playoffs for example.

In what was basically a bullpen game, Urías appeared in relief for the Dodgers. In two innings of work out of the pen, Urías seized just one hit in the scoreless outing. He also deserved the win in what was a series-clinching matchup in the nation’s capital. His next performance was not as strong, where he allowed 4 runs in just 3.2 innings of work.

Analysis

It’s been a long road to recovery for the young southpaw. These rehab stints are very important for Urías. Dodger fans are excited and hopeful Urías can join this Dodgers team come September 1st. As a bullpen piece, he could be a big part of this club in this World Series run this season.
