Dodgers: Kenley Jansen Not Worried About Playing in Potential Wild Card Game
With three games left in the season and the Dodgers still 2 games back in the NL West, the chances of repeating as the winners in NL West are not in their favor. However, the team is already guaranteed a spot in the Wild Card Game against the St. Louis Cardinals who have been red hot. Fortunately for the Dodgers, they’ve started a little hot streak of their own.
Closer Kenley Jansen took some time to sit down with SportsNetLA’s Kirsten Watson to talk about the upcoming playoffs.
“It needs to click now and it’s clicking. For me I have no problem to play one game and I don’t think any of these guys have a problem with that. It’s just a good thing for us right now to just get that momentum to fight from the get-go. I know we wanted to win the division, but at the end of the day if we get in as a Wild Card, we just have to go in and win knowing we’re the better team and continue to play in the playoffs.”
While winning the division for the 9th year in a role would’ve been great, it’s not the ultimate goal for the team. Jansen knows that they still have the talent to still win it all, even if it takes a longer route. Especially as the team as a whole has come alive in the last couple of games to close things outs.
“I’m looking forward to winning another championship knowing that this team that we have the best pitching staff this year in the whole league. We continue to do us and the hitters do them. I think as a group we’ll be fine.
If it takes losing the division title streak for the team to win a second straight championship, I’m sure the players and many fans would gladly take that scenario. The team has been getting hot as of late and just in time to make another deep playoff run. First things first, they’ll need to finish off the season strong and get ready for whoever their first opponent will be.
