Dodgers: Kiké Hernandez Progressing on Deal With the Boston Red Sox

The end of an era in Los Angeles may be coming to an end in the coming days, if not hours. The Dodgers are slated to lose a few big names in free agency heading into the 2021 season, including Kiké Hernandez.

The most recent report on Herandez’ market seemed to suggest that there were several teams in on him. That would include teams like the Twins, Red Sox, and Mets. One report even suggested that the Dodgers could potentially land him if his market did not develop.

As it turns out, his market seems to have developed just fine. The Dodgers super-utilityman is reportedly closing in on a deal with the Red Sox, as the two sides progress in talks. The news was reported today by MLB’s Jon Morosi

For the moment, it is unclear what the terms surround that deal might be. Hernandez has said that he is interested in contracts that allow him to play full-time though, and Boston can certainly offer him that. The Dodgers could not guarantee 500 plate appearances for him in a season, even if they wanted to spend the money.

Nothing has been made official as of yet, but Dodgers fans can count Hernandez gone regardless of how things progress. There are too many teams looking for the flexibility that Kiké brings, and Los Angeles has far too much depth to justify the expense. But he will always be remembered as a champion in the city of Los Angeles.
