Dodgers: LA Insider Predicts When Ryan Pepiot Will Make His MLB Debut

MLB experts believe the Dodgers farm system is once again among the best in baseball. The Dodgers top pitching prospect Ryan Pepiot is a big reason why. The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya is confident that Pepiot will make his major league debut in 2022.

“I would be very surprised if Ryan Pepiot doesn’t debut at some point in the latter half of 2022. He was being mentioned publicly as an option last summer as the Dodgers’ rotation was thinning, and he moved his way up to Triple A in quick fashion.”

The Dodgers drafted Ryan Pepiot in the third round of the 2019 Amateur Draft. In 2019, he pitched in 13 games between Single-A and the AZL. The Dodgers liked what they saw; he started his 2021 season with the Double-A Tulsa Drillers. He was then brought up to the Triple-A OKC Dodgers for his final 11 appearances of just his second minor league season.

It took just 23 games for Pepiot to make to be elevated to the highest level of the Dodgers minor league system. Even more impressive, is that Pepiot, like all minor leaguers, did not have a 2020 season due to COVID.

But when will the righty be called up? Ardaya believes that Pepiot will be making his first pitch as a Los Angeles Dodger sometime this summer.

“The Dodgers seem to be positioning themselves to have a young wave of pitching ready in the second half of next season, headlined by Pepiot and Dustin May…”

Final Thoughts

The Dodgers could very well need Pepiot and their other pitching prospects to help their suddenly thin rotation. Aside from Julio Úrias and Walker Buehler, the starting staff is in a state of flux.

Clayton Kershaw is a free agent. Tony Gonsolin is more than capable, but needs to stay healthy. Newly acquired lefty Andrew Heaney just posted some of the worst numbers of any starting pitcher in 2021. Right-hander Andre Jackson has thrown a total of 199 pitches in MLB. Veteran David Price is yet another rotation wild-card.

With all that in mind, Dodgers fans should get their first glimpse of Pepiot at Chavez Ravine sooner, rather than later.
