Dodgers Land at Number 1 in the Season’s First Power Rankings

The Dodgers were the top team in MLB’s power rankings to start the season in 2020. After acquiring Mookie Betts and David from the Boston Red Sox, they deserved to be up there. As it turns out, they wouldn’t relinquish that top position for the remainder of the year.

This season, the Dodgers are once again off to a good start. MLB just released their first official power rankings of the new season, and Los Angeles is back on top. There are 2 teams from the National League West to crack the top 5 with the Padres coming in at number 2.

The additions of Trevor Bauer no doubt helped shoot the Dodgers back to the top. They are coming off of a World Series win in 2020 and have only gotten better since. The losses of Joc Pederson and Enrique Hernandez were curbed by the incredible depth that Los Angeles has across their organization.

But the Padres did everything they could to keep pace with the Dodgers. The additions of Blake Snell and Yu Darvish were good, but ultimately not enough to justify a changing of the guard.

Dodgers pitcher Dustin May recently talked about the addition of Trevor Bauer into the rotation. Despite the fact that Bauer lessens his chances at cracking the rotation, May is excited to have a Cy Young winner aboard.
