Kershaw hit Marte with a pitch in the fifth and Andrew McCutchen doubled him home to tie the game once again. Aramis Ramirez followed with a single past a drawn-in infield to give the Pirates a 4-3 lead.

The Dodgers were unable to get anything going in the top of the sixth and went down in order. The reigning MVP took the mound for the bottom half and retired the side without any more damage.

With two outs in the seventh, pinch-hitter Carl Crawford reached base via catcher’s interference and proceeded to steal second. Rollins then delivered a game-tying double that missed being a home run by a couple feet. Kendrick would have broken the tie, but Ramirez made a diving stop at third base to end the inning.

Juan Nicasio was the first reliever in the game for the Dodgers and he was able to retire the side in order to keep the game tied. The Dodgers were unable to score in the eighth.

Nicasio allowed a leadoff infield single to start the bottom of the eighth and was replaced by Luis Avilan. A single and a walk loaded the bases for the Pirates, but Avilan got two force plays at the plate and a ground out to end the inning without any damage.

Alberto Callaspo, Pederson and pinch-hitter Alex Guerrero were retired in order in the top of the ninth. Jim Johnson took the mound for the bottom of the ninth and got a strikeout plus a double play to send the game into extras.

Kendrick doubled with one out in the 10th and was joined on the bases by Scott Van Slyke after a walk. They both advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch, but Yasmani Grandal struck out to end the inning.

Johnson returned to the mound to begin the bottom of the 10th. He allowed a leadoff walk, a single to left and a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. Left-hander J.P. Howell then took over. Pedro Alvarez hit a single to right to end the game at 5-4.

  1. Pathetic (what I mean is, the pitching is good but not good enough for the playoffs. They don’t have that golden…sparkle, that extra unintangible thing that gets you through the 2nd season) pitching & too many LOB
This kind of b-ball won’t beat the Cards in the playoffs
