Dodgers: Max Muncy Gives An Up-To-Date Elbow Update

Max Muncy’s 2021 season ended with an ugly elbow injury on the last day of the regular season. The injury ruled him out for the Dodgers entire postseason run. After the playoffs, it was revealed that Muncy’s collision with Jace Peterson of the Brewers tore the first baseman’s UCL.

Muncy made a guest appearance on AM570’s Dodger Talk with David Vassegh this week. The two-time All-Star gave a status update on how his elbow is recovering.

“It’s feeling good. it’s feeling strong. we’ve been swinging a bat lately — it’s progressing well.”

Muncy’s assessment is in stark contrast to the slugger admitting that his elbow wasn’t “recovering as quick” back in November.

Similar to teammate Caleb Ferguson, Muncy discussed the oddity of recovering from a major injury without being able to talk to anyone at the Dodgers.

Due to the lockout, players on any team’s 40-man roster cannot communicate directly with a club. Instead, an intermediary has to be used – in this case, an independent athletic trainer.

“The lockout does help [with the healing time] but at the same time, it’s tricky because, yeah, I’m getting more time to get healthy but I’m also not being able to work with my guys on the staff — I can’t even talk to them really — I’d probably be getting better treatment if I was worked on by them, but that’s just the unfortunate circumstance.”

On the bright side, the Dodgers slugger believes that he’ll be ready for Opening Day, whenever it happens.

“Even before the lockout, it was looking possibly like I was going to be ready for Opening Day, I still think we’re on that track right now.”

Muncy also stated that he’s all for taking the field on Opening Day as the Dodgers second baseman. That is, if LA can lure free agent first baseman Freddie Freeman.

Either way, it’s great to hear that Muncy is feeling more and more confident about his injured elbow.
