Player of the Day – Malcolm Holland

Holland, a 33rd round pick in 2011, was originally going to go to college to play football. The Dodgers signed him away from his commitment and he’s shown some exciting tools as a pro. He has good speed, having stolen 76 bases in his first 169 games and has collected four in four games so far this season. He’s played second base in the majority of games but also fills in at left and center field. Malcolm has also shown a keen batting eye, drawing nearly as many walks (111) as strikeouts (134) in his brief career. The only tool that’s really lacking is power, but if he makes enough contact, Holland sure looks like your prototypical leadoff hitter.
