According to The Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett, today was a planned off day for Betts. Plunkett also reported that Mookie is partially using the off day to do some video review on his swing.
It’s only the eighth game of the season, but the Dodgers are likely being more cautious than usual with Betts. A shortened spring training, coupled with Betts’ various injuries last year, likely played a role in sitting the 2018 AL MVP.
2021 NL batting champion Trea Turner takes over the leadoff spot with the versatile Chris Taylor getting the start in right field.
